1 lakh fish fingerlings released in Barak River

Senapati, October 22 2019:
Tribal Affairs & Hills and Fisheries Minister N Kayisii along with Director of Fisheries and officials of the department including the Jt Director of Fisheries released 1 lakh fingerlings at 3 different places in Senapati district.
The releasing programme was taken up at two different places in Mao areas which are tributaries of Barak River and Barak River at Koide Biisho.

Bidyarani Ayekpam, MCS, Director of Fisheries said the programme was organised by the Fisheries Department under the initiative of the Minister concerned.
Besides increasing fish population, one of the main objectives of the programme is to help create eco-friendly environment, said officials.
Fisheries Minister N Kayisii said that the fish fingerlings were released along Barak River as decided by the State Govt.They were released at sited chosen/requested by the villagers, he said.
While expressing gratitude to all for their cooperation, the Minister said that the State Govt is planning to release fish fingerlings in other rivers also.
He also advised the villagers to restrict fishing in the river for sometime to let the fishes grow and mature.
