Thoubal, June 22 2020:
In a case of 'violence against women', a married woman was 'beaten severely' by her husband.
It is reported that the woman was beaten so severely that she is bedridden now.
On the other hand, denouncing the incident, a JAC was formed by the 'victim' side and demanded the State Government to take legal actions against the 'perpetrator' at the earliest.
The JAC also resolved to launch stringent agitation if the Government fails to fulfil their demand on or before June 25 .
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at the resident of the 'victim', co-convenor of the JAC Md Fazur Rahman said that the injured woman Sanatombi (26), d/o Md Safiruddin of Sangaiyumpham Part (i) Yangbi Leikai, Thoubal married Md Habibur (35) S/o Md Abdur Rashid of Ngariyan Makak Leikai, Imphal East at the residence of the bridegroom in the absence of Sanatombi's family.
Stating that the parents of both sides mutually agreed to hold a proper marriage ceremony on July 20, he claimed that the groom frequently took Sanatombi to his place even after she was sent home on mutual agreement awaiting the marriage.
Saying that the family members of Sanatombi were unable to contact her after she was taken by her husband on May 27 to his home, the co-convenor said that the mother of Sanatombi found her daughter tied to a bed by a rope on June 20 when she went to visit her.
As bruises and blood spots were also seen on her (Sanatombi) body, the mother hurried Sanatombi to District Hospital Thoubal without any delay, Md Fazur Rahman claimed adding that Sanatombi was discharged yesterday.
Sanatombi is unable to move due to all the 'thrashing' she received, he added.
A complaint has been lodged at Porompat Women Station to arrest Habibur Rahman and all involved in 'assaulting' Sanatombi, he said and added that the trial should be conducted at a Fast Track Court.
