Peace museum now adorns Maibam Lotpa

Bishnupur, June 22 2019: CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam along with Japanese delegates who came to Manipur to take part in the platinum jubilee of the Battle of Imphal, inaugurated Imphal Peace museum at Maibam Lotpa Ching, under Nambol AC, today.

The museum was inaugurated in connection with the commemoration of the great war of 1944 which was fought between the British and Japanese forces.

Sate Government dignitaries and delegates from Japan paid homage to the departed souls at the India Peace Memorial, Maibam Lotpa Ching while saplings of Sakura were also planted as part of the inaugural ceremony.

Ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Hiramatsu, British High Commissioner to India, Dominic Asquith, Nippon Foundation chairman Yohei Sasakawa, CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam, MLA Konthoujam AC, Dr Sapam Ranjan, MLA Nambol AC, N Loken and delegates coming from different countries along with high level officials of the district were present in the ceremony.

Speaking on the occassion, British High Commissioner to India, Dominic Asquith expressed respect and maintained that the British people regard the people of Manipur as highly respectable, humble and down to earth people.

He maintained that the museum inaugurated today will mark the peaceful relationship and a reminder to the coming generations about the brave souls who died in the war.

Dominic prayed for the opening of the museum to make the people forget the wrongdoings of the past and stand together for global freedom.

Ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Hiramatsu expressed gratitude to the State Government for initiating the establishment of a museum near India Peace Memorial in Maibam Lotpa Ching and for letting the delegates take part in such ceremony.

He said that the museum will exhibit the strong relationship between India and Japan and will also benefit the generations to come.

Meanwhile, Minister Karam Shyam stated that the day has provided an opportunity to strengthen the healthy relationship between Japan and India.

Following the relentless initiative taken up by the State Government in improving tourist destinations and art and culture of Manipur, the number of people visiting the State has increased, added the Minister.

Weapons which were used by Japan armies during WWII were displayed in the museum.

The 75th commemoration of the Battle of Imphal was organised by Manipur Tourism Forum, 2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation and Tourism Department.
