Imphal, February 22 2017:
After an understanding was reached at a meeting with the Chief Secretary and the DGP this evening, the Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has revoked their decision to spare no vehicles for the ensuing election.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, TDC president H Ranjit said that the meeting discussed about the disagreement on requisition of vehicles for the election.
After listening to the points raised by the TDC, the TDC opined that vehicles should be first requisitioned from within the State and vehicles may be requisitioned from outside the outside only when there is shortage.
Transport Department and Election Department officials who went to Assam to requisition vehicles were unable to provide vehicles till this evening for transportation of CRPF and other Central paramilitary forces from Dimapur to Imphal.
Pointing out that Central paramilitary forces would face lots of difficulties if they are forced to halt at Dimapur due to non-availability of vehicles and the election process would be affected if the TDC does not spare vehicles, the DGP appealed to the TDC to revoke their decision.
After deliberating on the DGP's appeal, the TDC decided to revoke its decision of not sparing vehicles for the election.
Subsequently, TDC mobilised around 300 vehicles and 260 of them were sent to Dimapur today itself to bring Central paramilitary forces from Dimapur, Ranjit said.
However, the TDC's decision that Transport OSD BK Sharma should tender an apology still stands, Ranjit added.
He further appealed to the Chief Secretary, the Transport Commissioner and the DGP to ensure that such embarrassing situation does not happen in future.
