Imphal, November 21 2019:
The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has drawn the attention of State and the Women Commission of the State to the alleged "case of sexual exploitation" of a woman.
The ATSUM in a statement alleged that the incident occurred on November 18, 2019 at the 12 Assam Rifles check post of Khudengthabi.
According to the apex tribal student body of Manipur, the Assam Rifles personnel on the pretext of checking and frisking committed the act.
"The incident is vehemently condemned by ATSUM, and that, no one is immune to the law of the land whether he/she is in uniform or civil and therefore the Assam Rifles personnel involved in outraging the modesty of the woman should be booked and tried in a Court of law to bring justice", the tribal student body added.
In this regard, the Women Commission of the State is expected to initiate immediate steps to book the culprits under the prevailing laws/acts of the land to secure justice without further delay before situation turns volatile, the ATSUM demanded.
The Woman Action for Development has also strongly conemned the molestation a woman by personnel of 12 Assam Rifles at Khudengthabi on November 18 and urged authority concerned to take immediate action.
A woman from Chahnou village, on the pretext of being checked/frisked, was sexually molested by a group of Assam Rifles personnel including women, alleged WAD in a statement.
Such crimes should not be swept under the carpet, said WAD and demanded immediate legal action.
