Aimed at reminding the voters on exercising their franchise rights in a judicious manner and ensure election of the right person, Manipur Innovation Society under the aegis of State Election Commission (SEC), Manipur today launched 'voter awareness campaign' ahead of the Panchayat Elections, 2012 .
The campaign was launched from Kangla Gate this morning with SEC Secretary Th Chitra Devi formally flagging off the campaign by signing on the Signature Campaign Board and releasing a pigeon to mark the occasion.
commenting on the occasion, Chitra Devi called upon the people to promote peaceful voting during the panchayat elections, which she described as an important exercise towards strengthening democracy.
stating that the election at the grass-root level will see the electorates stamping their approval for one representative each to the Zilla Parishad, Gram Panchayat and Gram sabha, she conveyed that ballot papers would be used in the forthcoming election which would be held from 7 am till 4 pm of September 13 .
For election of Zilla Parishad member the ballot paper will be pink in colour, while yellow ballot paper would be used for Gram Panchayat and white for Gram Sabha.
As a part of the campaign volunteers left Kangla Gate in a bus and will cover various locations where signatures of the electorates would be collected.
The first day will cover market and public places of Lilong, Thoubal and Mayai Lambi areas.
