House pays obituary to departed members

A two minute silence was observed at Manipur Legislative Assembly today as a show of condolence on the demise of former Member of the Manipur Territorial Assembly Lhing-janeng Gangte, former Members of Manipur Legis-lative Assembly Thokchom Kunjo Singh, Prof Gangmumei Kamei, Heigrujam Thoithoi Singh, Haji Abdul Salam, Yumnam Yaima Singh and former Member of Rajya Sabha Wangkheimayum Kullabidhu.
Speaking at the obituary reference, House leader and Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that former Member of the Legislative Assembly Prof Gangmumei Kamei was a great leader who immensely contributed towards bringing unity between the hills and the valley.
He pointed out that former Member of the Legislative Assembly, Haji Abdul Salam was a great Muslim leader while Yumnam Yaima was also a leader of great integrity.
N Biren stated that the demise of the seven leaders is a great loss to the State adding that everyone share the grief and sorrow of the respective families.
Opposition leader and former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said that former member of Manipur Territorial Assembly, Lhingjaneng Gangte was not only a great tribal leader but also a Padmashree awardee.
"Former Rajya Sabha member W Kullabidhu was a leader and a social activist who dedicated his life to the service of the people", he said.
"Prof Gangmumei Kamei was a historian and a member of NEC.
The loss of such a great leader will leave a large void in the State", he added.
O Ibobi further pointed out that former Assembly member, Heigrujam Thoithoi was not only an ex Education Minister but also a leader who worked hard to bring quality education to the State.
"The demise of former Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Haji Abdul Salam is a great loss, especially for the minorities", he said adding that Yumnam Yaima Singh was also an eminent political leader of the State.
He further said that all those gathered share the grief of the family members and pray for the departed souls.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, N Loken, Govindas Konthoujam, Md Fajur Rahim, Kh Joykisan, S Rajen, Th Lokeshore, Dr S Ranjan, AK Mirabai and L Radhakishore were also present at the obituary reference.
