Champu Khangpok state discussed

A meeting was convened today at the DC office in Bishnupur to address some of the pressing issues concerning conservation of Champu Khangpok, a floating village in Loktak Lake.
The meeting was co-chaired by Loktak Develop- ment Authority (LDA) Chairman M Asnikumar Singh and Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner L Bikram Singh (IAS) .
Attendees of the meeting included SE/Wetland-in- charge of LDA Ng Sana-jaoba Meetei, EE/LDA Malemkhomba, environmentalist and LDA member Salam Rajesh Singh, district level officials and representatives of the floating village.
At the meeting, Deputy Commissioner L Bikram Singh commended the initiatives taken up towards conservation of Loktak Lake and Champu Khangpok.
He proposed the establishment of a joint team to verify floating dwellers' spots and ensure accurate record-keeping�an initiative unanimously accepted during the meeting.
Asnikumar Singh urged representatives from the floating village to play a key role in the conservation mission.
He also affirmed that Champu Khangpok village would receive all the support for sustainable development and numerous welfare schemes which will benefit the village in the long run are in the pipeline.
Asnikumar Singh also appealed to the fishing community to refrain from illegal fishing practices.
He went on to state that Loktak Lake is now included under the esteemed Amrit Dharohar Scheme�an initiative by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote the wise use and conservation of Ramsar Sites.
Saying that LDA has also initiated projects to improve the water quality of Loktak Lake, he added that cleaning the mouths of Nambul and Moirang Rivers has begun while dredging of Khordak River is already done.
