Mysterious disease claims 2 in Ukhrul village

Ukhrul, January 21 2020:
Fear and panic has gripped Khamasom Phungdhar village after two persons died one after the other within 48 hours in Ukhrul district.
According to the villagers, a four year old girl W Philangam d/o Thanshok died on January 17 while 38 years old Valleyjoy w/o Standhope died on January 19 .
During an interaction with this correspondent, a villager Phillip recalled how Philangam and Valleyjoy died one after the other after showing the same symptoms.
According to Philip, the two deceased persons had bite marks on their body, the like of which was seen for the first time in the village.
Surprisingly, the bite marks, black in colour, appeared on their bodies after they passed away.
Two other villagers L Yarchung (30) S/o L Mashivam and J Ringphawon (28), w/o J Lovejoy have also been rushed also to Ukhrul district hospital yesterday.
According to reports from Ukhrul district hospital, necessary medication and treatment have been administered to both the patients.
The district hospital conducted test for Typhoid, Scrub Typhus and Malaria and all turned out negative.
Yarchung has breathing problems and stomach pain while Ringphawon has swollen feet.
A medical team from Ukhrul district hospital rushed to Khamasom Phungdhar village today and a health camp has been held there.
During the camp, necessary medical examination and treatment of the villagers were conducted.
Medicines were also given to the sick patients.
It might be mentioned that after the death of two villagers, Khamasom Phungdhar village authority has appealed to the CM for immediate attention and intervention.
The CM immediately responded by sending a medical team of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) from Imphal to the village for further investigation and diagnosis of the mysterious disease.
