Imphal, January 20 2020:
Over 20 political parties have geared up to launch a sustained protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 across the country.
As a part of the country-wide protest, over 12 Opposition parties have resolved to stage protest demonstrations against CAA 2019 for 10 days starting from tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, CPI State secretary L Sotinkumar said that January 21 was the day Manipur achieved Statehood.
After offering floral tributes at the Statehood Square located to the western side of Pologround, Statehood Day would be observed at the Irabot Bhavan, Sotinkumar said.

On January 23, Left parties would observe the birth anniversary of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose at Manipur Press Club.
Several political parties would observe the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who took pivotal role in driving out British rulers from India, on January 30 at Manipur Press Club by holding a 'unity conference', Sotinkumar said.
In the meantime, public meetings would be held at different places where the Preamble to the Constitution of India would be read out so as to safeguard the Constitution, restore communal harmony and strengthen secularism in the country, he continued.
Saying that anti-CAA protests would be staged at district headquarters and other public places, Sotinkumar appealed to all the people to support the protest movements which would be spearheaded by different like-minded political parties.
He said that enactment of CAA 2019 by the BJP-led NDA Government is a formidable threat to the country's Constitution and secularism.
In their efforts to suppress all mass movements against CAA, the Government shut down internet, imposed curfew and indulged in rampant human rights violation, he said.
The 10-day country-wide protest movement is in opposition to the CAA and the NRC exercise which would begin from April and continue till September this year, Sotinkumar added.
Leaders and representatives of 12 different political parties were also present at the press meet.
