Imphal, June 19 2020:
CPI, Manipur State Council has categorically stated that the State is witnessing more and more COVID -19 cases each passing day due to the negligence of the Chief Minister N Biren; Chief Secretary, Suresh Babu and Medical Director, Dr Rajo.
In a statement issued today, CPI Manipur State Council stated that civil organisations and CPI had urged the authorities concerned to compulsorily carry out a test for all returnees and kept them at institutional and community quarantine centres established by the Government before sending to their respective districts.
After several returnees from Chennai reached Manipur, arrangements were made to evacuate more stranded State natives from Karnataka, New Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Considering the situation, CPI had even urged the State to send additional medical teams at Jiribam and Mao Gate to ensure all returnees are screened and tested there, it said.
Moreover, the CPI State unit also forewarned that the situation will be grim if the COVID-19 consultative committee being formed to handle the matter did not act diligently, it said.
The number continued to surge as some reckless people flouted SOP on a few occasions despite the CM announcing a stricter lockdown policy and SOPs for maintenance of quarantine centres, it said adding that delaying test results and disorderly testing of samples increases the risk of transmission among inmates.
Questioning if the authorities concerned are honest in their effort to stop/slow the transmission of the novel coronavirus in the State, CPI opined that the fight against the disease won't be successful unless the CM, Chief Secretary and Medical Director are replaced by competent leaders.
