Stand off mars poll scene at Singjamei AC

Imphal, January 19 2022: Timely intervention by Singjamei Police prevented escalation of a stand off supporters of Yumnam Khemchand and Oinam Romen yesterday evening at around 7 at Singjamei Yumnam Leikai.

According to information received from the spot, a team of supporters of Oinam Romen, intending candidate in Singjamei AC, had visited some families near Yumnam Leikai Lairembi.

When they were returning from there, they heard of supporters of Yumnam Khemchand blocking the road in the name of a feast, after which supporters from both side engaged in a verbal feud.

However, the situation was controlled by timely intervention by Singjamei police.

Speaking to the media at his residence, Oinam Romen said it would be wrong for any intending candidate to prevent voters from choosing the candidate of their choice.

There should also be no objection in supporters of different candidates conducting campaign anywhere in the AC, he added.

He also appealed everyone to uphold the democratic principle and not indulge in any violent activities during the election.

Meanwhile, Oinam Thingel Meira Paibi has condemned the incident and appealed all the women in the AC to play an important role in preventing election related violence.
