SAPCC likely to be finalised this month

Directorate of Environment and Climate Change Joint Direc-tor Dr T Brajakumar has asserted that sincere efforts are being made by the directorate to complete finali- zation process of the State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) within this month.
He was speaking on the sideline of a consultation workshop on the finalization of SAPCC, Version 2 which was organized today by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change at the Classic Grande, Chingmeirong.
The Joint Director further said that the finalized action plan will be sent to the Central Government after taking due recommendation from the State Government.
He maintained that the main purpose and goal of the action plan is to sort out actionable measures and eventually take them up on the ground to lower the risk of climate change in the State.

Conveying that health, agriculture and allied activities, water and forest resources are more sensitive to climate change, Brajakumar went on to claim that certain thematic and strategic areas are being chosen to be specifically emphasized in the action plan.
He added that the action plan may propose to set up an important project each for the same sectors.
While discussing the health sector, Economics Professor M Mohendra stressed on the need for relying on correct health data at the time of finalizing the action plan.
He stated that the genuine data collected from Primary Health Centres in rural and remote areas are crucial for finalisation of the action plan.
The Professor also questioned the credibility of available health data amid improper functioning of Primary Health Centres in remote areas and abject road conditions leading to the health centres.
During the workshop, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore's Professor NH Ravindranath talked on "Global Climate Change Policy- downscale at National Level" while Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), Bangalore's Principal Research Scientist Dr Indu K Murthy gave presentation on "Climate Change Vulnerability: Assessment on Human Health in Manipur''.
Many experts and high ranking officials from the State Health Department, Water Resources Department and Forest Department also participated in the consultation workshop.
