First open heart surgery conducted

The first ever open heart surgery in the State was conducted successfully today at Sky Hospital and Research Centre, RIMS Road under the supervision of Dr Ajay Kaul, Chairman and Head of Cardiology Department, BLK Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi.
Speaking to media persons, Dr L Shyamkishor, heart specialist of Sky Hospital said that the dream of having a specialised heart hospital in the State has been realised after a team of surgeons and staff of Sky Hospital successfully conducted the open heart surgery on a 10 year-old girl from Tamenglong district.
He said that the girl was born with a hole in her heart.
She was advised to undergo surgery to close the hole.
The family members could not afford the expenses for surgery outside the State.

With the surgery conducted today, the girl can now lead a normal life, he said.
The surgery was conducted today by a team comprising 12 experienced heart surgeons under the supervision of Dr Ajay Kaul.
Dr L Shyamkishor said that the team used heart-lung machine during the surgery on the girl.
The girl gained consciousness just within an hour after the operation.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Ajay Kaul, Chairman and Head of Cardiac Department, BLK Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, said that the surgery today was a landmark achievement for the hospital.
He said that he along with some of his associates landed in the State yesterday for the surgery.
The surgery was performed after checking the equipment and facilities of the hospital.
Preparation for the surgery began from 9 am today and the main operation was conducted at around 12.30 noon and the operation was completed in one hour.
