Imphal, November 18 2011:
The International Lainingthou Sanamahi Faith and Believers Forum have called on the United Naga Council and appealed to lift the protracted highway blockade in the interest of the general public who have been suffering untold misery on account of the blockade.
Speaking to media persons here this afternoon, convenor of the forum Ch Manoranjan Khuman said that though the forum is a religious one, an 8-member team of the forum visited the UNC at their Senapati office yesterday in the interest of the suffering people.
During the meeting with UNC speaker Paul and finance secretary Dani, members of the forum appealed for immediate suspension of the blockade.
To this, the UNC leaders blamed the State Government for neglecting tribal people and keeping them backward.
They also condemned the Government's alleged discriminatory treatment of hill people thereby sowing seeds of hatred and misunderstanding.
The ongoing agitation is not targeted against any community but is aimed at teaching a befitting lesson to the arrogant State Government, Manoranjan conveyed as stated by the UNC leaders.
Stating that the Government has not yet taken up any step to resolve the issue through dialogue, the UNC leaders appealed to all the people of Manipur to support their agitation.
Even though the UNC leaders did not give any assurance to lift the blockade, they assured they would consider the appeal for lifting the blockade in the interest of general public.
Informing that they also gave an appeal letter to the UNC, Manoranjan said that they would be constrained to take help of international communities if no response is forthcoming from the UNC in the next five days.
