Theology students go on the rampage

Students of Manipur Theological College, the only College sponsored by Baptist Churches under Manipur Baptist Convention, resorted to violent protest, damaging college furniture to lodge their dissatisfaction over the Internal Assessment Mark in the recently declared 4th Year 1st Semester Examination on Aug 22 and the decision of Manipur Theological College Board as well as the College Council besides the authority's failure to address the grievances of the students.
Peeved at the alleged indifference of the authority concerned to the grievances of the students, around 40/50 students of the MTC, situated some 5 km away from Kangpokpi, destroyed some of the college furnitures around 3 pm.
Immediately after the incident, Kangpokpi Police personnel led by its OC L Vaiphei reached the spot and controlled the situation.
Speaking to media persons at the college campus, the Students' Union of MTC President Phamtuhring said that the authority concerned including the MTC Board and the College Council compelled the students to take recoruse to such an extreme step while holding the MTC Board and College Council accountable for the ugly incident that occurred yesterday.
A joint meeting was convened with MTC Board members comprising of its Chairperson Apila, MBC Gen Secy Konghar and MBC Youth Secy Mathotmi, the College Council and the Students' Union at the College but without any positive outcome.
The Student body also appealed to every like-minded individual and civil body as well as all the responsible and sensible representatives of every Association under MBC in particular to bring positive changes for the betterment of all the communities and the theologians in particular and also bring an end to the bias administration in Christian Ministry.
On the other hand, the Manipur Theological College Council said that they are initiating every positive step to bring an amicable solution.
