Cabinet okays draft paddy land Bill

The State Cabinet gave approval to the Draft Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land Bill, 2014 and the same Bill would be tabled in the ongoing State Assembly.
The Cabinet meeting which started at 4 pm at the Chief Minister's Secretariat went on till 7.30 pm today.
Speaking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Government spokesman M Okendro said that the State Government is deeply concerned with the ever shrinking agricultural land of the State and subsequent dwindling in the State's agricultural productivity.
The State Cabinet has decided to check transformation of agricultural land into non-agricultural land under a strin- gent law.
The State Cabinet also agreed to hike the monthly pension and family pension of journalists under the Manipur Working Journalists Pension Rules after their retirement at the age of 60 .
Monthly pension of journalists has been hiked to Rs 4000 from Rs 2000 and family pension from Rs 1000 to Rs 2000.For this, the Government would pay annual grant of Rs two lakh and the same would be increased to Rs five lakh from 2019-20 .
The Cabinet meeting una-nimously resolved to name the Kambiron sub-station of Jiribam-Tupul railway line as the Haipou Jadonang Railway Sub-Station.
The Cabi- net meeting discussed about identifying an appropriate site for the proposed sports university and apprise the same to New Delhi.
