Many hold protest demanding unconditional release of six village volunteers

Thoubal, December 17 2024: A sit-in protest was staged against the gunning down of teenagers by security forces at Salungpham in Thoubal and the arrest of six other persons with weapons at Thoubal Kiyam Babu Keithel by blocking half of the National Highway.

Later the protesters marched a rally towards the office of SP Thoubal office.

During the protest, the protesters demanded unconditional release of six persons arrested by security forces and to terminate the police officer involved in the Salungpham firing incident.

The protesters continued that if the Government fails to meet the demands of the people, it will intensify their agitation.

The sit-in protest held under the banner "Brutality Killing of Laishram Meitei and Arrest of Six Village Volunteers" was organised by the Meitei Community Joint Co-ordinating Committee (MCJCC) an apex body of 18 organisations from Waithou Kiyam Siphai Haokha and Thoubal Khunou was also attended by various people from different parts of the valley including leaders of several organisation.

Protesters held several placards like "Terminate police personnel involved in the killing of Laishram Prem", ."We condemn killing village volunteers", "Release six village volunteers without any condition", "Repeal AFSPA", "Resign irresponsible CM", "Stop arresting village volunteers", "Remove 10 Kuki MLAs from their post", "End Kuki narco terrorist" during the protest.

Similar protest was also held at Thoudam Keithel organised by the Thoudam Meira Paibi Lup demanding unconditional release of six village volunteers and to punish those Police personnel involved in the Salungpham firing incident.

Slogans like "We condemn killing of village volunteers", "Terminate Police personnel involved in killing Laishram Prem", "Repeal AFSPA from Manipur" were raised during the protest.

Meanwhile, the public of Kakching Khunou Lamkhai also staged a sit-in protest at Kakching Khunou Lamkhai condemning the arrest and killing of village volunteers.

The sit-in protest organised by the Khunou Meira Paibee Welfare Association held placards like "We condemn arresting and killing of village volunteers", "Transfer SP Thoubal to Churachandpur or Kangpokpi", "Terminate Police personnel involved in the killing of village volunteers", "Repeal AFSPA from Manipur", "Resign irresponsible CM", "Remove undeserved leaders from the position" and also raised similar slogans during the protest.
