Senapati, February 17 2015:
The UNC's decision to declare the mode and date of its proposed agitation, which was earlier decided to be announced after Lui-Ngai-Ni, has been delayed for a few days.
According to UNC members, the decision has been delayed after the UNC team met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at Raj Bhavan, Imphal on February 14 .
During the brief meeting, the UNC submitted a memorandum demanding speeding up the Indo-Naga peace process and settlement at the earliest possible.
The four member delegation led by UNC president Gaidon Kamei along with speaker Kho John submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister in the presence of Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, MHA officials and others.
While highlighting the UNC's preparedness to launch democratic forms of agitation to the Minister, the UNC team is learnt to have told the Minister that the Nagas in particular and tribals as a whole cannot continue to be suppressed under the 'repressive policies' of the present State Government.
The UNC team also urged the Government of India to understand the root cause of the Naga issue and work out a permanent solution.
Demanding strong political will of the GoI to resolve the long pending issue, the UNC team pointed out that it was high time that GoI comes out with realistic approach to translate the issue into reality.
The UNC has been compelled to take drastic steps like imposing bandhs and blockades to seek the attention of the Govt to redress its grievances.
Sources also said that the Union Home Minister while giving a patient hearing to the UNC team had asked the Manipur Nagas' apex body to refrain from calling such agitations.
However, the UNC is likely to launch its agitation within this month, the source added.
