Imphal, January 17 2014 :
As a part of the ongoing MUSU revival demand agitation, the Manipur University Students' Union-Revival Demand Committe (MUSU-RDC) has today burned the effigies of Union HRD Minister, Pallam Raju; President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, who is also Visitor of MU, and the Vice-Chancellor of MU, Prof H Nandakumar Sarma.
Besides burning the effigies, the demonstrators have also displayed placards and raised slogans demanding the resurgence of MUSU.
Later, MUSU-RDC convenor, Th Suresh said that the demonstration today was a part of series of agitation demanding the revival of MUSU.
He warned that the Administrative Block of MU would be closed if the MU authorities, particularly the VC, fail to give positive assurance to the demand at the earliest.
Suresh further said that all concerned departments should immediately stop conducting practical exams and no departments of the University should organise workshop or function.
The convenor also asked whether the VC has been deliberately ignoring the restoration of MUSU to cover up his alleged misdeeds.
Saying that there should be no negotiation until the demand of MUSU-RDC is achieved, the convenor said that the VA and Registrar would be held responsible for any eventualities like ruining of infrastructure and academic atmosphere.
He further appealed all research scholars, students' unions of MU affiliated colleges and State based organisations to support the demand of MUSU-RDC.
