The Manipur Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the director general of police, Manipur in connection with a complaint over a Manipur Rifle jawan abducting, robbing and assaulting a civilian while posing as an underground activist.
The commission took up the case following a complaint from one Mutum Ibemhal Devi, a resident of Uripok Sorbon Thingel.
According to her petition, he son, Mutum Tarunkumar, 35, was waylaid by one Demang Haokip, a serving Manipur Rifles personnel bearing rifleman number 014002 and currently attached to the MPTS, Pangei, near, near Sanjenthong on September 30 last.
Demang Haokip was accompanied by his elder brother Lemdang Haokip.
Both posed as belonging to an underground organization and forced Tarunkumar to take the on his Kinetic Honda to Motbung.
Thereafter, Tarunkumar was criminally assaulted and robbed, and later left for dead by the two men.
Next morning, Tarunkumar was found lying near the roadside.
A bus driver picked him up and had him admitted to JN hospital where his condition is still said to be critical.
Mutum Ibemhal had further stated that subsequent to her complaint, the Gamnom police station, Sapermaina, had registered a case, but till date failed to arrest the assailants.
She had also made a complaint regarding this to the DGP, Manipur, but no action was taken.
