Imphal, December 14 2020:
The Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) is set to observe and monitor the activities of the aided colleges closely towards development and help gain new heights.
On December 16, 2016, 5 five prominent private colleges were converted into aided colleges by the State Government and the move was welcomed by all, however, the big development turned into a hub for all kinds of ill practices and wrongdoings, alleged AIMS in a statement.
Following the conversion of the said colleges into Government aided colleges, staggering number of departments have been opened at these colleges and disorderly recruitment process to fill vacant posts was conducted creating an unhealthy and corrupt atmosphere, alleged AIMS.
While strongly resenting such practices at a place which are akin to a temple, AIMS demanded immediate revocation of the employment orders of those who have been absorbed by the colleges flouting guidelines as laid down by the University Grants Commission (UGC) .
There should be no cheating at the time of recruitment of teachers and only those who fulfil eligibility criteria and possess prerequisite qualifications should serve as teachers, said AIMS.
The observation campaign will be for the first phase conducted at Pravapati College, Mayang Imphal and Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam, said AIMS while asserting that the members of the body and advisory committee, in a meeting, had called on the governing body of Pravapati College to produce relevant documents of all teaching and non teaching staff of the college.
Despite the agreement reached during the meeting and attempts to communicate, the governing body of the said college is trying to evade the matter, it alleged .
Upon investigation, AIMS also found out that Naorem Birahari College has been plagued with irregularities and anomalies as none of the teaching and non teaching staff of the college were found to be appointed in a proper way.
Plans to displace college
Principal, factions of teachers supporting the Principal and teachers against the Principal, appointment of junior faculty who had finished MSc joining the college as Principal-in-charge, unending exchange of charges and counter charges on media have been evident, it said.
Efforts to bring the opposing sides on the same table have been made but to no avail owing to possible 'political hands', it said while adding that it wants the issue to be settled for betterment of all.
Questioning the inaction of the Education Department over the issue, AIMS also drew the attention of the State Government and stated its desire to see a clean and transparent education atmosphere in the State.
