Suspected food poisoning case lands many in hospital

More than 80 persons who attended a birthday party at Senapati have been admitted to PHC, Paomata and PHSC, Tungjoy yesterday over suspected food poisoning.
According to credible sources, the people who showed symptoms of food poisoning attended a birthday party at Tungjoy Village under Paomata Sub-Division in Senapati district.
Volunteers of Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM) have been assisting the doctors and nurses of the health centres in reinforcement of medicines and other works to ensure the safety of the patients.
According to the latest report, 85 people were admitted to medical centres till midnight yesterday.
Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM) expressed gratitude to the medical team posted at Paomata PHC and its PHSC for their quick response in treating the infected persons.
Furthermore, PNTM appreciated the team from its federating units for assisting the patients.
It is reported that officials from the Food Safety Department have already rushed to the area to ascertain the causes of mass sickness while some patients have been discharged after medications as per doctor's advice.
Reportedly, these guests at the birth party might have fallen ill after eating a fermented fish chutney as people who didn't eat the chutney are not among the sick, but the true cause of the infection on such a large scale is not yet ascertained.
On Wednesday morning, a team of Food Safety officials Senapati had taken the samples of the food for inspection.
