5 held for playing football with guns

Imphal, February 14 2025:
Five individuals seen playing football by holding automatic rifles in their hands or weapons slung over their shoulders have been arrested by police.
Video clips of these men playing football at Gamnomphai village ground, Kangpokpi district with sophisticated weapons slung over their shoulders in utter disrespect of law went viral on social media and the incident was widely reported in mainstream media.
The five individuals arrested by police on February 12 have been identified as Mangtinlen Kipgen alias Baemang (26), Mangtinlen Kipgen (24), Seithenmang Kipgen (28), Lunminsei Kipgen (21) and Lunkhogin Kipgen (24), according to a press release issued by Police Control Room.
On the other hand, three cadres of KCP (Noyon) were arrested by police on February 13 from Thangmeiband, Keishampat and Khurai Thoudam Leikai.
They have been identified as Kangjam Pradip alias Pari alias Tenoi (38), Thokchom Romeshchandra alias Ayangba (33) and Leimapokpam Sanjit Meitei alias Naobi (54) .
Two cadres of KCP (PWG) were also arrested from Sangaiyumpham Nungphou Samaram Road, Thoubal district.
They have been identified as Thokchom Lanchen- ba alias Mutum (22) and Md Salim Khan alias Md Amir (32) .
One pistol with a magazine, five numbers of ammunition and one four-wheeler were recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile, five acres of poppy plants were destroyed at Changpikot hill range near Kotzim village, Chura-chandpur district yesterday.
Ten poppy pods were also seized from the area, said the press release.
