Rich tributes paid to Prof Sanajaoba

Rich tributes were paid to late Prof Naorem Sanajaoba on his 10th death anniversary held today at Ojha Sanajaoba Memorial Complex, Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai.
Manipur State Minorities Commission Chairperson Md Anwar Hussain, Manipur University Dean (Mathematical and Physical Sciences) Prof N Rajmuhon, former Member of Ukhrul ADC Filson Y Lunghar, Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur president L Memchoubi, AMUCO vice-president K Helen and Hockey Union, Lairikyengbam Leikai advisor Aribam Ibomcha attended the function as presidium members.
Offering of floral tributes to the late Professor and a public meeting were the main features of the death anniversary function organised by the Ojha Sanajaoba Memorial Trust.
Giving key-note address of the function, Ojha Sanajaoba Memorial Trust managing trustee S Bhubon gave a brief account of the life and works of Prof N Sanajaoba.
Born on December 30, 1945 at Singjamei Makha Naorem Leikai, Prof Sanajaoba grew up in extreme poverty and his family shifted from one place to another.
As a student, he took part in the mass movement against artificial famine which took place in the State in 1965.He was the first elected president of the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU).
After graduating from DM College, he studied Law at Gauhati University.
He secured second position in LLB course and first position in LLM.
He obtained PhD degree as an independent scholar without taking help from any guide, Bhubon said.
As a Law student and teacher, he focused his studies on legal philosophy, legal jurisprudence, human rights, international law, international humanitarian law and administrative laws.
Some of the books written/authored by Prof Sanajaoba include Manipur: Past & Present which is divided into several volumes, Manipur: Treaties & Documents, International Human Rights and A Manual of International Humanitarian Laws.
Moreover he wrote a number of features and articles on law, human rights, science, philosophy, politics and armed conflicts, Bhubon said.
Prof Sanajaoba expired on December 13, 2009, the day the third revised edition of his book Manipuri Puwari Kunmathoishuba Chahicha was released, he recalled.
Prof Sanajaoba was a scholar who stood firmly for the cause of self-determination, integrity of Manipur, and liberation movement of peripheral States, Bhubon said.
He said that translation of the ideas and vision of Prof Sanajaoba into action would be the most befitting tribute to the late Professor.
