Imphal, December 13 2012:
Four Manipuri body builders who competed at the recently held 4th World Body Building Championship and made top podium finishes would be felicitated by 10 organisations on December 15 morning at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound.
At the world championship held from December 4 to 10, Arambam Bobby won the gold medal in 75 kg class while kh Pradipkumar finished third in 65 kg category.
Out of two female participants from the State, Yumnam (O) Momota bagged the bronze medal in the under 50 kg competition and K Rebita Devi finished fifth in above 50 kg class.
Speaking to newspersons on behalf of the organisations at its Lamphelpat office, UCM president Yumnam Nabachandra contended that the reception function will be organised as a form of protest against alleged indifferent attitude by both the Central and State Governments.
Appealing to every section of the society to attend the felicitation programme of the four, Nabachandra regretted that inspite of frequent reference to Manipur as the country's powerhouse of sports sportspersons who bring laurel to the country and State are seldom given honour or financial incentives they deserve.
on top widespread favouritism during trial selections sportspersons from Manipur face constant discrimination, he maintained and wondered why the Government are reluctant to provide jobs to excellent players.
Expressing that such indifferent attitude is a cause for concern for the people of Manipur, Nabachandra reiterated that through the upcoming felicitation programme Government callousness and negligence of the sportspersons would be laid bare.
opining that there are some politicians who try to gain political mileage out of achievements of players, Nabachandra asserted there are hardly any political leader who take up players' cause.
He also appealed to the Government of Manipur for extending financial incentives and Government jobs to all sportspersons who excel at the international level competitions.
Besides UCM, the other organisations that would co-host the reception programme at 11 am are ACOAM Lup, Pandam, IPSA, NIPCO, UPF, AMSU, KSA, Modern development Organisation and united Gym Manipur.
