Imphal, September 13 2024:
Lieutenant General (retd) Konsam Himalay has stated that the Centre need to seriously intervene to resolve the protracted crisis in the State.
Himalay was very categoric in delivering the statement as he continued that the involvement of the Centre is very necessary as the State Government is unable to handle the situation on its own despite putting in all efforts to restore normalcy in strife tom Manipur in the last 16 months.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, the retired Lt General said that ending the conflict in Manipur without the assistance of the Centre won't be possible.
The State Government could have resolved the crisis by now if they were capable of handling the situation on its own, he said while reiterating that the State should take the help of the Centre to de-escalate the tension in Manipur.
On asked whether Manipur can return to pre 3rd May 2023 status, he said that the Centre and other stakeholders viz armed groups, civil society organisations and people have a large role to play to make it happen.
About the students taking out widespread protests recently with somewhat similar demands to the one submitted by Chief Minister N Biren and his ruling MLAs to the Governor, Himalay said that the students may have been frustrated over the unrest persisting for over 16 months.
He said that he, however, doesn't want students to take part in any activities which will affect their study.
I want the students to focus on their studies, he said.
