Relief and aid materials were distributed to flood affected people at Ucheckon Yubraj Palli today under the Indian Red Cross Society's (IRCS) Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) Operations .
Speaking to media persons, IRCS Manipur State Branch secretary Dr Y Mohen said that the Manipur DREF Operations 2017 is supported by IRCS National headquarters and sponsored by the European Union through the Geneva-based International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) headquarters .
Even though a report was submitted about 10,000 households affected by floods in the State, DREF sanctioned relief measures for only 2000 households .
Manipur DREF Operations 2017 was launched on July 18.So far, relief materials have been distributed to 1600 households, Dr Mohen said .
The relief materials distributed to flood affected people include kitchen sets, clothes, solar lanterns, alum, bleaching powder, chlorine tablets, jerry cans, water filters, sanitary napkin for women etc .
IFRC's key member from the Netherlands Leon Prov, IFRC National headquarters members Bijoy Umit, Rina Tripathy, Puja Saxena and DREF Assam member Laba were also present at the gathering .
They arrived here yesterday to attend a review meeting on Manipur DREF Operations which would be held at Classic Hotel, Dr Mohen said .
IRCS Manipur State Branch chairman Dr RK Nimai and vice-chairman Narendra Ningomba were also present at the gathering where relief materials were distributed.
