Remand for impersonators

Three persons who made phones calls to some MLAs of Manipur from unknown numbers claiming to be Jay Shah s/o Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and demanded huge amounts by promising the post of Chief Minister in return have been remanded to police custody till March 17 for further investigation.
The accused persons identified as Uvaish Ahmed (19) s/o Sagir Ahmed of Nidhauri Kala, Etah, Uttar Pradesh, Gaurav Nath (19) s/o Bahadur of Sapera Basti, Gharoli PS, Ghazipur, East Delhi and Priyansu Pant (19) s/o Basant Vallab Pant of Mayur Vihar Phase III, East Delhi were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West by a team of Imphal police station along with a prayer for police remand till March 18 .
An APP submitted that on February 15, 2025 at 7.30 pm, the complainant, Kongkham Robindro Singh, Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly, 23-Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency lodged a written report to Officer-in-Charge, Imphal Police station stating that amidst the present turmoil and political uncertainty in the State, his cousin Kongkham Basu Singh s/o (late) K Basanta Singh of Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai, received a call from a person who introduced himself as Jay Shah, s/o Amit Shah, Union Home Minister on February 14, 2025 at 8.25 pm.
The caller promised the post of Chief Minister to Kongkham Robindro and for that he demanded a huge amount.
Based on the complaint a regular case was registered at Imphal Police Station for investigation.
The APP submitted that two of the accused persons were arrested from Sub Jail Haldwani, Nainital, Uttarakhand on March 6, 2025 after obtaining due permission from the Chief Judicial Magistrate concerned of Uttarakhand while the third accused was arrested from District Jail Roshnabad, Haridwar, Uttarakhand on March 7, 2025 with due permission from the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Haridwar.
The APP further submitted that the three accused persons are highly required for custodial interrogation to dig out the facts of the crime, details of other associates, their motive and conspiracy etc, and prayed for police custody remand till March 18 .
The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded all three of them in police custody till March 17 .
The Court also directed police to produce the accused persons before the same Court at 11 am on March 17 .
The accused persons were brought back to Manipur in connection with the case after taking due permission from the Courts concerned of Uttarakhand.
