Imphal, December 11 2015 :
Manipur Hill Journalists Union (MHJU) has strongly condemned the 'unwarranted' attack on Bruce K Thangkhal at Chakarpur in Gurgaon by some local thugs on December 5 .
Physical assaults and discrimination can never bring love, understanding and peace to the Indian society, the union said in a statement.
The union said that the incident is highly condemnable as Bruce Thangkhal was beaten up as his looks were different.
It further said, the union is pained to think that no local man came forward to help Bruce when he was continuously beaten up in full public view.
This is unthinkable in a country like India where leaders preach communal harmony, the union said.
It further said, "We appeal for sanity so that there is no racial discrimination in India.
We thank God that he survived the attack but we also fervently appeal to the Gurgaon police to immediately book the culprits" .
Bruce Thangkhal hails from Churachandpur and he is the Delhi Correspondent of 'The Zogam Today', a Churachandpur based daily newspaper.
He is also the media in-charge of Delhi based North East Support Centre & Helpline.
He is a member of MHJU and he possesses a press identity card issued by the Government of Manipur.
The union urged the Government of Manipur to take up necessary steps to nab the culprits.
