Decks cleared for BJP marathon

Imphal, August 11 2022: BJP Manipur Pradesh has completed all preparations for a mega marathon which would be held here tomorrow to commemorate the 75 th year of Indian independence.

Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office today, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary P Premananda claimed that the stage is all set for the 22 Kms marathon which would be held as a part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

So far, around 1900 athletes have submitted their names for the marathon even as 2300 to 2400 athletes are expected to take part in the marathon, Premananda said.

Chief Minister N Biren would flag off the marathon from Nambol Maibam Lotpa Ching at 7.30 am.

The marathon would wrap up at Khuman Lampak sports complex where the athletes would be received by BJP State unit president A Sarda, the general secretary said.

BJP MLAs would hoist the Indian National flag at a place 200 metres short of reaching the destination.

The athlete who first present this flag to A Sarda would be declared winner of the marathon, he continued.

The marathon would be closely monitored by a team of 10 male judges and 10 female judges from the Athletic Association of Manipur throughout the course of the race, he said.

The winners of both the male category and female category would be given cash prize of Rs one lakh each, Premananda said.

He said that second position and third position holders would also be given cash prizes.

He added that the marathon would be divided into three houses.
