Drugs seized at Mantripukhri

Drugs worth more than Rs 6 lakhs were seized by a team of Customs Division, Imphal when they were being transported in a mini-truck near the Mantripukhri toll tax booth this morning.
Displaying the seized drugs before media persons this evening, Customs Division, Imphal Superintendent (Anti-Smuggling) L Simte said that the drugs were seized from a truck which was bringing slippers from Dimapur at about 9.30 am.
The drugs were brought to the State after concealing them amongst bundles of slippers.
Along with the drugs, Md Islao Rahman (20) s/o Md Abdul Salam of Lilong Turel Ahanbi who brought the drugs has also been apprehended.
The drugs found concealed among the slipper bundles include 15,120 strips of Spasmo Proxyvon capsules, 5580 strips of Actilab-T tablets, 24,800 strips of Actilite tablets, 1000 bottles of phensydyle and 1170 bottles of Lupicof (codeine syrup) .
Actilab-T and Actilite have pseudoephedrine components.
Total monetary value of the seized drugs is Rs 6,16,167.This figure would increase double or triple times if prices of the seized drugs are calculated at the rates prevalent in black markets, Simte said.
The drug consignment was sent to Dimapur from Delhi by train by one man called Chanchan.
Islao Rahman received the consignment and loaded in a mini-truck at MP Road, Dimapur before heading towards Imphal today.
Islao who is also engaged in supplying footwears to Imphal and Moreh said that the drugs should be handed over to one Kishore, a Nepali residing in Myanmar.
All the seized drugs belong to 'controlled substances' category.
Driver of the mini-truck, Roland Adalu (22) from Dimapur is also being detained for necessary questioning, added the Superintendent.
