The other recipients of RK Sanatombi Awards include Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Imphal, Lecturer Jaichand Oinam, Manipur Traffic Police personnel Ph Amubi Devi, JNIMS Assistant Nursing Superintendent Takhellam-bam Yaimabi Devi, differently-abled person Salam Luwanglakpa Meitei, Maria Montessori Senior Secondary School, Imphal student Lukanand Kshetrimayum, National Sports Academy, Imphal student Ningthoujam Yoiheiba Meitei, badminton player Maisnam Meiraba Luwang and boxer Huidrom Ambeshori Devi.
Speaking at the event, Dr RK Ranjan asked the teachers and all those concerned to work with sincerity and dedication towards establishing a knowledge-based society and producing capable citizens.
He contended that establishing or running schools solely for the purpose of profit making will not be able to fulfil the true objective of imparting education.
Noting that human beings have now reached a stage where establishment of knowledge-based society has become the most important part after passing through different evolution stages and transformation phases, the MP said that knowledge has become the parameter by which every human throughout the world have been competing with one another.
Further stating that families and educational institutions are the two requirements for establishment of a knowledge-based society, he explained that families are the first place of learning for an individual while educational institutions are the place where individuals are taught appropriate knowledge and skills and then moulded to become refined and fine citizens of the society.
Hence, in order to make a knowledge-based society and to make Manipuri society a vibrant and respectable one, teachers and educational institutions should properly mould students with the clear intent of bringing out capable and refined citizens, he said.
However, if schools are run solely for commercial purpose, the real objectives or goals of education can never be fulfilled, Ranjan added.
Expressing strong disapproval on the present trend of sending school children for tuitions and coaching as part and parcel of education in the State, he opined that teachers and authorities should introspect why the education system in Manipur is lagging behind other States despite the application of modern equipment and scientific tools in the present education system.
The MP then maintained that schools like RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya, which are running with the primary objective of imparting knowledge to children and fulfilling the real objectives of education, should be acknowledged and encouraged by the society.
