Awareness programme against drugs held at Heirok

As a part of the ongoing awareness programme launched by Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) in different parts of Manipur to wipe out the menace of drugs and contraband items from the State, a public discussion programme on "Impact of intoxicants and drugs on the society and role of public to curb this menace" was held at Ngarouthel YBC ground, Heirok Part 3, Thoubal District on September 8 at 3 pm which was jointly organized by CADA Thoubal District Committee in association with Youth Brilliant Club (YBC).
Laishram Ibungo senior citizen, Ningthoujam Tangba Pradhan Heirok Part 3 Gram Panchayat, Dipanjit Ningthoujam Secretary General CADA, Ningthoujam Subha Nominee of ward member Heirok Part 3 GP ward no 3 and Kh Samananda SI Heirok Police Station attended the programme as presidium members.
Secretary Organisation CADA Mayengbam Budhi speaking as a resource person on the occasion said that even though there is various laws framed to tackle illicit drugs and contraband items in Manipur, the previous and present Government failed to implement the said laws on effectively which has resulted in the mass availability of such illicit drugs and intoxicants in our State making our youth exposed and addicted to such contraband items.
He continued that many of the youngsters succumbed to the addiction and scores live a life of non-existence due to the addiction while adding that young widow whose husband died to the drug addiction faced adversity to earn their livelihood.
He also urged the public and the stakeholders to take up immediate measures to stop save our youth from the evil effect of intoxicants and drugs.
While speaking on the occasion, Secretary General CADA Dipanjit Ningthoujam said that no one wants to use drugs but once got addicted the person cannot come out from its circle and added that due to widespread availability of contraband items number of drugs user and addiction have kept on increasing.
He continued that even though the person knows that using drugs is harmful to our health they were tempted to use it.
It is a collective effort to curb the rising number of drug users and not for few organizations, Clubs or Association, he added.
Government cannot wash their hand off from their bounding duty and should award befitting punishment to illicit drug-traffickers irrespective of their position or connection to prominent leaders.
Various resolutions were also taken in the discussion programme to stop sale and use of contraband items in the area covered by Ngarouthel YBC.
