Oken for delegating responsibilities to MLAs

Reasserting his pledge that there would be no leniency in the effort to improve standard of education in the State, Education Minister M Okendro declared that Ministers and MLAs would be entrusted with the task to ensure effective implementation of education policies.
The Minister made the announcements while speaking at freshers' meet programmes at ASUFU Christian Institute, Pudunamei (Mao) and Mount Everest College, Senapati today.
Citing geographical condition as the main factor for the Government-run educational institutions in the hill districts facing infrastructure problems, Okendro affirmed that there would no disparity in the development of schools and colleges between the hill and valley areas.
For ensuring effective implementation of development programmes undertaken by the State, particularly in the education sector, Ministers and MLAs concerned would be tasked to not only monitor development programmes but also take the leading role in ensuring that welfare projects are judiciously implemented, the Minister said.
Soliciting support and cooperation of the teaching community, he suggested that rather than lobbying for favourable postings, teachers should be ready to mould the future generation wherever they are posted.
Further asserting that maximum effort would be made to improve standard of education in Manipur in such a way that students from neighbouring States choose Manipur to pursue their goal, he also stressed on setting up institutions for technical education in order to compete with the best in the country.
Informing that the dispute concerning primary teachers has been settled last evening, Okendro said the 1800 strong primary teachers would be posted in an egalitarian manner in all the districts while UGC authorities would be apprised on the need for more fund provision to improve educational infrastructures.
While increment of Rs 50,000 was announced in the grant-in-aid scheme for ASUFU Christian Institution, which will take the aid figure to Rs 2 lakhs, he also urged students belonging to BPL families to study at Government institutions in order to get educational benefit from various schemes.
Accompanied by MLA M Alexander Pao, professors of Manipur University and other Government officials, Okendro assessed condition of Hill College, Tadubi which was reportedly established in 1978. Briefing the Minister, district administration officials highlighted inconveniences faced by the students due to poorly maintained approach road to the College, which is about 3 kilometres upward from the main road.
While the College at present commands a strength of 330 students and nine regular teachers and six part-time lecturers, the Minister was informed about resurrection of the College after nearly 20 years of disarray when the Senapati district's Deputy Commissioner arranged fund provision.
The Minister's inspection tour also covered Sardar Patel High School, Mao and the under-construction FCI godown at Mayang Khan village.
the godown on completion will be able to store 5000 metric tonne of food grains.
