Youth accosted, shot dead in broad daylight

Imphal, February 10 2025: An 18-year-old youth was fatally shot in broad daylight at Moirangkampu Awang Leikai under Porompat police station by unknown armed miscreants today.

The deceased has been identified as Laishram Malemngangba @ Thonao 18 s/o (L) Ibomcha of Nongpokngangba of Moirangkampu Awang Leikai.

The incident took place at around 12.30 pm when the deceased was travelling to a store at Khurai Ahongei with his friend Sinam Jack (18) from the same locality on a bike.

According to Jack, four assailants who came in a four wheeler signalled them to stop near Puriba Puraba Laishang which is located about 150 meters from their locality.

He said that the assailants asked them about one Amar before one of the assailants pulled the deceased from the bike at gunpoint.

Following some ruckus, the assailant shot Malemngangba in the forehead and he died on the spot, Jack narrated.

Saying that he confronted the assailants and one of them tried to shoot at him too, Jack said that the bullet got stuck inside the weapon.

He said that he ran away from the spot and took shelter in a nearby house.

The armed miscreants fled from the spot.

Shortly after the incident, a team of Porompat police rushed to the spot and carried out an inquest of the dead body and its surrounding areas.

One empty case and four live rounds were reportedly recovered from the site.

The corpse has been deposited at JNIMS morgue.

Porompat police have registered a case.
