Veteran CPI(M) leader Meitram Shamu passes

Comrade Meitram Shamu , veteran leader of CPI(M) and Kisan Sabha leader of Manipur, expired on December 8, 2019 in his village Awang Jiri, Imphal at the age of 92.Comrade Shamu was one of the first generation communist in Manipur.
He joined the communist party under the leadership of Jananeta Irawat Singh, the founder of communist party in 1948 and participated in the peasants movement during the late 1940s and early 1950s and was in the underground for 4 years.
Comrade Shamu was in the movement for legislative assembly, statehood, Manipuri language and against AFSPA etc.
Comrade Meitram Shamu was a founder State Secretariat Member of CPI(M) in Manipur in 1967.He was elected as Secretary of the party's state unit by the 7th Manipur State Conference of CPI(M) in 1981at Keibi ,Imphal.
He served the party as a secretary for 4 terms.
He also served the village panchayat as Pradhan during 1960s and 1970s.Comrade Shamu attended 11th, 14th,15th and 16th Party Congresses of CPI(M) .
The funeral service of Comrade Meitram Shamu was attended by the entire state secretariat of CPI(M) : Kshetrimayum Santa, Sarat Salam, Yumnam Ratan and Sougrakpam Roma Devi and CPI state assistant secretary Maisnam Joykumar and other leaders and paid their last Salute.
The State Secretariat of CPI(M) hold a condolence meeting today in the State office and observed two minutes silent in memory of Comrade Shamu and expressed deep condolence and grief at the passing away of Comrade Shamu.
His demise is a great loss to the party and peasants of Manipur.
The secretariat conveyed it's heartfelt condolences to his family members.
