Imphal, December 09 2011:
Whereabouts of an Imphal bound goods laden truck is still traceless after it was whisked away by unknown gunmen from Dimapur in December 6 night.
The vehicle (AS-01BC/1712) which was transporting edible oil from Guwahati was intercepted along with the driver and helper by the miscreants at around 7/8 pm between Purana Bazar and Char Mile, said an informed source.
The vehicle was loaded with edible oil worth Rs 16 lakhs for an agent of Engine brand from Thangal Bazar.
It is said the truck was leaving Dimapur after paying goods tax of Rs 22,000 to NSCN(IM), but was intercepted by another group enroute to Imphal.
Meanwhile, sources said that after the UNC lifted the economic blockade clamped on the National Highways, Naga armed groups have intensified collection of illegal taxes from goods trucks coming from and moving towards Manipur along NH-2 .
Collection of illegal taxes and extortion at Senapati and Dimapur areas are increasing day after day.
