District level quiz competition / legal awareness held at Ukhrul

Ukhrul, November 09 2019: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ukhrul under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) organized a district level interschool quiz competition cum legal awareness programme for students of Ukhrul at DRDA conference hall, Mini Secretariat office complex Hamleikhong Ukhrul today.

The quiz competition was based on different topics including the Indian Constitution, Fundamental Rights & Duties, Directive Principles of State Policy, Motor Vehicles Act & Penalties, IPC & CrPC, Women & Child Rights, Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, Citizenship Act and some portion of General Knowledge & Current Affairs.

Masana E Panmei, CJM & Secretary, DLSA Ukhrul informed the students on legal services that are available in the district.

She further educated them on Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 and on how to avail legal aids through legal services authorities and the legal aid clinics, established in the district.

Meanwhile, legal experts Bineshwori Maibam, JMFC Ukhrul and Wungshangshim Ch, Legal Aid Counsel, DLSA Ukhrul enlightened the students about RTI and other rights reserved for children by the Constitution.

Later, prizes were distributed to winners of the quiz competition namely A S Worchuirin and Ranjan Kumar Sharma from SHHSS, who bagged first position while UPS and LAES secured second and third positions respectively.

Consolation prizes were given to all the participants as well, reports our correspondent.

A total of eight schools namely, Little Angels English School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ukhrul Central School, Ukhrul Public School, Maringmi Memorial School, Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, KTL Excel Higher Secondary School and Ukhrul Higher Secondary school participated in the programme.
