Imphal, June 09 2025:
Re-construction of the NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur highway) section which sank at Phesama, Nagaland on June 1 has started.
Following incessant rainfall, a 40-metre section of NH-2 sank at Phesama, thereby stranding a large number of loaded trucks heading to Imphal.
As the particular section is prone to frequent landslides, NHIDCL has been working to re-construct the sunken portion with proper planning.
As the particular section is considerably long and has sunk completely, it will need cutting the hill slopes anew.
As such, re-construction of the particular section will take some time, sources said.
NHIDCL was unable to initiate the road construction work as they could not come to an agreement with the owners of the land which would be acquired for construction of the highway section.
An agreement was reached on the matter after several rounds of talks involving the Phesama Village Authority and the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland.
Following the agreement, NHIDCL started re-constructing the highway section from today.
Meanwhile, Mao AC MLA L Dikho today talked with the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland on expeditious construction of the sunken highway section.
During a meeting with representatives of All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union, Surface Transport Hill Area Drivers Welfare Union and Senapati District Drivers Welfare Union, NHIDCL Executive Director RP Singh said that maximum efforts would be invested to complete the highway construction work once the necessary land is acquired.
In the meantime, a bypass which connects Mao (Students' Memorial Park) to Kohima via Kedima and Chakabama was repaired at the initiative of Losii Dikho and this enabled stranded trucks with six wheels to move to Imphal.
Empty trucks leaving Manipur use this bypass during daytime while loaded trucks heading to Imphal move on the bypass during night.
However, loaded trucks with more than six wheels are still stranded at Dimapur and many other places of Nagaland.
