Doc's endeavour results in Eco Park at Ukhrul

Imphal, October 08 2015: Besides opening a private hospital to cater to the medical need of Ukhrul denizens, Dr Nelson Vashum has taken up a noble endeavour to protect the environment by setting up an Eco Park in Ukhrul.

Pisgah Eco Park, set up by the 66 years old specialist in gynaecology Nelson Vashum and situated just a few kilometres away from Ukhrul district headquarters is fast becoming a hotspot for the public.

The park is sprawled on seven acres of land.

Dr Vashum has preserved a total of 46 acres of land for the purpose.

Dr Vashum is running a private hospital, Comprehensive Health Service and Research Centre at Ukhrul.

In a chat with The Sangai Express, Dr Nelson said he was setting up the eco park as a model for the protection and preservation of environment.

He said fruit bearing trees, which are found in the State since time immemorial, have been planted in the park.

The park looks simple yet the natural beauty impresses the visitors.

Visitors are greeted by two big human statues adorned with Tangkhul traditional dresses at the entrance gate.

More than half of Ukhrul town is visible from the park.

It is also necessarily an abode of many animals and birds.

Visitors are not charged for entry/visiting the park.

Dr Nelson also said he is planning to set up another eco park at Toloi on an area covering about 2000 hectares.
