Not let up in ILPS demand

Demonstrations demanding a legislation to regulate influx of non-local people into the State and protection of indigenous people of the State go on unabated.
As a part of the JCILPS-spearheaded ILPS movement, a public meeting was held at Nungsai Chiru Authority Court Hall under the aegis of Nungsai Chiru Women's Society today at 1pm.D Thangpu, chief of Nungsai Chiru and Ngakneikim Serto, president of Nungsai Chiru Women's Society were the presidium members while Advocate Y Ratankumar, president of CADA was the resource person.
A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to Sapam Robinhood.
Speakers at the meeting emphasised the need to formulate a law for protection of the indigenous people of the State.
They also stressed the need to carry forward the ILPS movement with the participation of people from both the hills and valley.
A sit-in was staged by womenfolk of Sadu Chiru demanding implementation of ILPS in Manipur.
The demonstrators demanded fitting punishment against police personnel involved in the killing of Robinhood, said a statement.
Hiyangthang Apunba Meira Paibi Lup staged a sit-in protest demanding ILPS implementation today at Hiyangthang.
JCILPS Students' Wing, Imphal East district committee, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup and Wangkhei Meihoupham Lampak Meira paibis and local elders staged a sit-in cum public meeting today at Meihoupham Lampak.
President of Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup and AMKIL, Ph Sakhi Devi and JCILPS Students' Wing, IE district committee co-convener Loitongbam Suraj Singh and other members attended the event.
A public meeting held at the office of Eastern Youth Welfare Organisation, Bamon Kampu Awang Leikai strongly demanded punishment against police personnel who committed excesses against student protesters demanding ILPS in Manipur.
A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to Sapam Robinhood during the meeting.
Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur, in a statement, said that implementation of ILPS in Manipur will be one step in the right direction.
It said that the use of brute force against protesters with the intent to curb the movement is not a desirable step on the part of the State Govt.The forum also extended solidarity to the bereaved family of Sapam Robinhood and others who sustained injuries in the ILPS agitation.
