Imphal, May 08 2020:
The disqualification case filed against seven MLAs elected on Congress tickets but have been supporting the BJP-led coalition Government was heard by the Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker's Tribunal today and the tribunal reserved its judgement.
The seven Congress MLAs who have been facing disqualification case are Sanasam Bira (Kumbi AC), Ksh Biren (Lamlai AC), O Lukhoi (Wangoi AC), Y Surchandra (Kakching AC), Ngamthang Haokip (Saitu AC), P Brojen (Wangjing-Tentha AC) and Ginsuanhau (Singngat AC) .
Speaking to media persons outside the Assembly complex after the hearing was over, Speaker Y Khemchand said that the seven MLAs filed a preliminary objection seeking dismissal of the disqualification case.
The MLAs have been reportedly contending that the disqualification case lacks logic as they have not yet joined BJP.
In order to verify the veracity of the objection, the tribunal has reserved its judgement, Khemchand said.
There is a standing rule in the relevant Act which says that all election related cases should be disposed within six months.
However, it took some time to arrive at a justification, the Speaker added.
