Imphal, April 08 2013:
A joint group of 11 Opposition parties have condemned in the strongest term the murder of Ningombam Satyabhama as well the State Government's failure to come up with any clue to the ghastly crime though the same crime was committed three days back.
The meeting held at Irabot Bhavan conference hall was presided by MSCP president Y Mani and discussed the murder of Satyabhama as well as other major issues confronting the State.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, CPI State unit secretary Dr M Nara said that all the political parties which attended the meeting strongly condemned the murder of Satyabhama.
Expressing surprise over the Government's failure to find any clue to the gruesome murder even though it has been three days since the lifeless body of the woman was found, Dr Nara said that such ineptness on the part of the Government aroused a strong feeling about shortcomings/lapses in the investigation process.
Whereas the rate of criminal activities targeting women and children have been rising sharply, none of the culprits involved in such ghastly crimes were ever booked promptly.
This is a matter of serious concern for the general public.
There is no semblance of law and order, and the victims have been left to themselves, Dr Nara decried.
As a first step towards launching a strong mass movement based on the myriad issues plaguing the State, a public meeting would be held at Patsoi on April 16 .
Dr Nara also invited all civil society organisations to the meeting.
The joint meeting held today resolved that the Government should review its decision to privatize four Government hospitals including Moreh Hospital.
Any policy of the Government designed to commercialise health sector would be opposed, he asserted.
He warned all concerned not to make any attempt to turn health care delivery system into a business enterprise.
Y Mani who presided the meeting claimed that people have no more faith in the incumbent Government as it could not resolve any issue in time.
MPP president N Sovakiran lamented that the State Government is a complete failure when it comes to delivery of justice.
He went on to question the legitimacy of such a Government which cannot even book a murderer.
