Imphal, February 08 2024:
All India Congress Committee (AICC) National spokesperson Dr Shama Mohamed has come down heavily on the NDA Government's weaknesses and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's failures with respect to the protracted crisis of Manipur.
Speaking to the media about the Congress party's 'Jay Jawan' campaign at Congress Bhavan here today, Dr Shama Mohamed pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has neither bothered to visit Manipur even once since the violent crisis erupted on May 3 last year nor has he felt the necessity of making any intervention.
In the last Parliament session, Narendra Modi spoke on the Manipur crisis for just two minutes but he did not give permission to any BJP MP to speak on the Manipur crisis in the Parliament, she said.
Some Cabinet colleagues of Chief Minister N Biren have openly expressed their distrust in the Chief Minister, Dr Shama said before asking why N Biren is still refusing to step down whereas he must have stepped down much earlier.
On the Centre's move to scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR), Dr Shama Mohamed said that the Centre should have first consulted with the people of Manipur before taking any decision on FMR.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Manipur twice in the midst of the violent crisis.
He also spoke on the crisis in the Parliament and tried to deliver justice to the people of Manipur, she said.
With the BJP Government paying little attention to the employment of crores of youth, the country's unemployment rate is now the highest during the last 46 years, she continued.
Following introduction of the Agnipath scheme, 1.5 lakh youth who were already accepted in the country's armed force through regular recruitment drives between 2019 and 2022 have been rendered unemployed, said the AICC spokesperson.
With the primary objective of delivering justice to the country's youth, Rahul Gandhi launched 'Jay Jawan: Anyay Ke Virudh Nyay Ka Yudh' campaign as a part of 'Yuva Nyay' campaign on January 31 this year.
The Jay Jawan campaign will expose how the Agnipath scheme has shattered the dreams of millions of youth, Dr Shama said.
Jai Jawan campaign will be divided into three phases and the first phase 'Sampark' (mass contact) would be carried from February 1 to February 28.The second phase 'Satyagraha' will begin from March 5 and it will continue till March 10 .
The third phase 'Nyay Yatra (Pada Yatra) will start from March 17 and it will wrap up on March 20,' she elaborated.
She also appealed to all the youth of Manipur and India to give missed calls to 9999812024 and register with www.jayjawan.in .
