Imphal, November 07 2024: In a shocking and despicable incident related to extortion, an armed man physically assaulted a Headmaster within the premises of his school.

The despicable incident happened inside the premises of Irilbung Government High School, Imphal East under Irilbung police station at around 9.53 am today.

As teachers and students were engrossed in their respective classes (third period), one unidentified man came and assaulted Headmaster Nongthombam Nilakumar with an iron rod.

Nilakumar, a resident of nearby Bamomkampu Mayai Leikai, sustained injuries on the back and calf.

Later, some teachers took him to hospital.

Although the unidentified man came alone inside the school campus, another man was seen waiting for him in a blue car (Maruti Alto) outside the school campus, according to information culled from the spot.

After physically assaulting the Headmaster, the two left the place in the car.

Vehemently condemning the assault, students and teachers of the school staged a protest demonstration at the school's gate.

One teacher said that the despicable incident has severely vitiated the academic atmosphere in the school.

"All of us including students have been caught in a fear psychosis", he said.

He also appealed to all concerned not to repeat such despicable incidents ever again.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the incident after registering a case at Irilbung police station.

It is said that one UG group had served monetary demand to the school.
