Thoubal, September 07 2024:
Thoubal district bore a deserted look today during the public emergency declared by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integration (COCOMI) across the State yesterday in view of increased Kuki aggression including drone bombings and missile attacks on Meitei areas.
Shops remained closed in various marketplaces in the district including Thoubal Keithel while the volume of traffic on the roads saw a significant dip.
Meanwhile, a large number of students of Thoubal College staged a protest at Thoubal Melaground Lamkhai accompanied by the shouting of slogans.
The students also stopped violators of COCOMI's public emergency at Melaground and Thoubal Keithel and made them go back.

The student protestors shouted slogans such as "Long live Manipur", "Manipur's territorial integrity cannot be compromised", "We want peace", "Administration that cannot restore peace should be ashamed", among others.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, a student by the name of L Sanathoi said that during the 16-month conflict, students have been killed and wounded and the student community has faced many hurdles.
She called it unfortunate that the State has been brought to a stage where the Right to Life holds more weight than the Right to Education.
When one's home is burnt and civilians continue to be killed, how can students continue to remain focused on their education, she questioned.
Stating that the student community wants peace, she said that many of the village volunteers are also students.
Thus she appealed for peace and an end to violence against students as well as ushering in a conducive environment for education.
District Police Thoubal also deployed security personnel in many areas as a precaution against any unwanted incidents.
At Khangabok, people blocked the movement of Central Security Forces.
