1st suspected COVID-19 case detected in Manipur

The State Health Service has reported the first suspected case of COVID-19 in the State today.
Moreover, it has also informed that necessary facilities for determining the presence of the virus is now available at JNIMS.
According to a status report furnished by the Heath Services today, the Assamese man who landed at Imphal from Dhaka, Bangladesh via Kolkata, who is being treated at RIMS isolation ward is being kept under observation due to suspicion that he might have been infected by COVID-19 .
The report says that a sample collected from the individual has been sent for necessary tests but the results are yet to be received, informed a source.
It may be mentioned that the State Health Department has already started tracing the passengers who were travelling along with the individual who landed at Imphal yesterday.
The source informed that the Health Ministry has already given its consent for installation of testing facilities for the virus at JNIMS and accordingly, the necessary trials have been conducted as well.
Moreover, the Ministry has also approved collection of samples for testing from RIMS, the source added.
Notably, out of 13 samples sent for testing from Manipur, 11 came out negative, one was rejected while the result of another is awaited.
On the other hand, the source conveyed that Health Minister L Jayantakumar, along with a team of Health officials, will visit Moreh tomorrow and look after the steps being taken up there to prevent transmission of COVID-19 from across the border.
