Stakeholders meet on workers education held

An interactive session with the Stake Holders of Workers Education was held as part of awareness programme for socio-economic upliftment and empowerment of the workforce.
The programme was held at the Conference Hall, Hotel Tampha, North AOC, Imphal yesterday.
Speaking at the session, Onkar Sharma Additional Director, DTNBWE & D, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Govt of India said that the Board was initially concentrated on educating the workers employed in the organised sector.
After recommendation by the Workers Education Review Committee and subsequent approval by the Govt of India, the Board shifted its emphasis from organised sector to educating the workers in rural sector.
The Workers Education Scheme in India has been playing a very significant role in national development, bringing disciplined work force and bringing about desirable behavioural changes in workforce in the organized, unorganized and rural sectors.
Onkar further said that the Central Board for Workers Education (CBWE) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India.
The Board which came into existence in the 1958 is celebrating Diamond Jubilee this year.
The Board has also been renamed as Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education & Development (DTNBWE & D).
The meet was attended by Eminent Economist, Prof N Mohendro Singh, representatives from Trade Union, entrepreneurs, NGOs, rural volunteers and special invitees.
The one day stakeholders meet was organised by the Regional Directorate, Dattopant Thengadi National Board For Workers' Education and Development, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.
