ST students protest

Demanding release of post-matric scholarship 2023-24, a large number of ST students today staged a protest demonstration.
As the students set out from GP Women's College for the Chief Minister's bungalow, they were blocked by police at the gate of TG Higher Secondary School.
As the students tried to move past the police barricade, police fired a few rounds of mock bombs but the students stood their ground.
Soon, IGP Themthing Ngasangva and Imphal West SP Ksh Shivakanta came to the scene and tried to control the situation.
Tribal Affairs and Hills Additional Director ST Rithung Anal too came and talked with protesting students.
After a brief talk, five student representatives were taken to the office of the Additional Director and the talk continued inside the office.
Later ST Rithung Anal issued an order in front of the student representatives for release of post matric scholarship for 9829 students from today onward while post matric scholarship for the remaining 23,713 students wouldbe released once the final instalment of fund is received from the Centre.
